Alison is a very experienced proofreader and copy editor. Her part-time role at Shift encompasses proofreading and copy-editing quantitative, qualitative and desk research reports, correcting errors, clarifying/streamlining phrasing and ensuring consistent, accessible and accurate narratives. She also works on project proposals and research reports, and writes case studies and other information for the four Shift websites, striking a balance between usability and SEO.
Alison has an MA degree in linguistics and modern English language from the University of Nottingham. Prior to joining Shift, she worked for a range of companies, from large corporates to SMEs, in a variety of different industries. As a freelancer, she has worked on many copy-editing and proofreading projects, having specific expertise in academic books and peer-reviewed journals, with additional experience in education, legal, medical and financial publications. Alison also has strong organisational and administration skills, including a background in office management.
Outside of the office environment, Alison volunteers with her local Riding for the Disabled Association carriage driving group. She is part of a small team that works hard to ensure disabled drivers can enjoy the freedom and mobility that driving a pony in the Kent countryside can provide
