Lena joined Shift Insight after completing her PhD research and has been responsible for project managing a diverse portfolio of Shift Insight work, often for clients in academic publishing, educational technology and university sector.

Lena is trained in various research methods – both quant and qual, equally comfortable with handling diverse datasets and diverse voices. However, she specializes in qualitative and social research; such as ethnographic fieldwork, in-depth interviews, participant-generated methods and literature evaluation. She uses a range of methodologies in her projects – from scientific to creative. It can be an academic literature review for Wellcome, mobile ethnography with young people for the British Red Cross, online focus groups with journal editors for the Committee on Publication Ethics or impact studies for Oxford University Press.

Lena’s areas of expertise are Higher Education, young people’s learning journeys and human side of technology. Her knowledge was built in various previous roles, which included conducting a PhD research with students and graduates, teaching at the University of Kent and freelance work in media production.
