Matt takes the lead in searching out new and innovative ways for us to unearth what our participants are really thinking. He is one of our key qualitative specialists and responsible for shaping company approaches to research activities and winning projects from public and private sector clients with creative research designs. Matt takes a hands-on approach to management across the full project cycle, including set-up, recruitment, fieldwork, analysis, reporting and presenting findings. As a creative thinker, he empowers organisations and policy makers to turn insight into action.
Day-to-day tasks include designing bespoke methodologies grounded in academic discourse and conducting fieldwork with high-level stakeholders across the globe, in addition to leading many projects. He is often found working closely with teams and data to ensure reports tell a clear story and provide actionable recommendations for clients. His core clients are within the higher education, academic publishing and public sectors, including University of the Arts London, Springer Nature, Pearson, Jisc and the British Council.
Matt has an MSc in Research Methods and has written and delivered a range of in-house training, with his Qualitative Interviewing programme gaining accreditation from the Market Research Society. He is certified as Carbon Literate, and much of his work is grounded in social and environmental sustainability. His dissertation, completed during the 2020 lockdown, used online ethnographic methods, participant diaries and unstructured depth interviewing to understand conceptions and experiences of urban ‘nature’ amongst a cross-section of residents of the London Borough of Hackney.
